28 Players Qualify for U.S. Junior National Team
Stockton, Calif. – With today’s conclusion of USA Racquetball’s 42nd Annual U.S. National Junior Olympic Championships presented by Penn and Ektelon, 28 individuals have qualified for the U.S. Junior National Team. Sam Bredenbeck and Lexi York took top junior singles and doubles honors by winning the Boys and Girls 18 and Under divisions respectively.
Bredenbeck, 19 of Marine On St. Croix, Minn., defeated Mauro (Daniel) Rojas in the two-game final 15-11, 15-11. The rising sophomore at Buena Vista University qualified for the U.S. National Junior Team for the fifth time. Bredenbeck captured double Gold Medals by winning the Boys 18 and Under Doubles division with partner Jake Birnel, 17 of Bellingham, Wash.
Members of the U.S. National Junior and Esprit Teams have secured invitations to the Junior World Championships to be held in November in Santo Domingo, capitol of the Dominican Republic. Additionally, members of the Junior National Team will attend the Junior Training Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs in August.

About the U.S. National Junior Olympic Championships
Now in its 42nd year, the U.S. National Junior Olympic Championship identifies the best junior racquetball players in the United States and those who qualify for the U.S. Junior National Team. Players can enter the division for the age at which they were upon January 1 of the current year. The Olympic Format of the Championship allows players of all skill levels to compete while ensuring that they play a reasonable number of matches and eventually play opponents of similar skill level. The Singles finalists and Doubles champions in the 18, 16 and 14 and Under divisions qualify for the Junior Team. The Singles finalists and Doubles champions in the 12 and 10 and Under divisions qualify for the Esprit Team. All Junior and Esprit Team qualifiers are eligible to compete for the United States at the Junior World Championships. Junior Team members are also able to attend the Junior Team Training Camp held annually at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
