Hey Lefty (and other stringers out there), what's your favorite knot to use for tie-offs?  Do you use a half hitch, double half hitch, Parnell knot or some other "signature" variation as your standard go-to knot?

If you use the double half hitch, do you yank a single half hitch and then add another, or thread for the double half hitch and pull all at once.  Perhaps it really doesn't matter?  I typically do one and then add the second.

Oh, regarding the source of the 40% tension loss on double pulls... I read it on some stringing site and now cannot locate it.  I would imagine there is some tension loss on a double pull but is likely more around 10% plus or minus a few.  I have asked Steve Crandall from Ashaway to weigh in on that question for his expert opinion.  I'll let you know what he says.

Later, Foss

I use just a simple knot and double it. In the more than a decade I've been stringing, I've never ever had a knot let loose. I don't know what the names of the different knots are but I just loop the string through and pull it tight and then do it again. When I think of it, I go the opposite direction on the 2nd know from the first so that it cinches down tight against itself.

As far as tension loss on a 2 main string pull on the Eforce and Head racquets, physics would say that because you're pulling a longer length of string AND going around a fulcrum, yeah, there's gonna be tension loss, but if you're concerned about it, bump up the tension a pound or two and call it good. When we talked at Moore Lake in January about stuff, I think you said you were using an Ektelon machine. Because of the dynamics of that type of machine, there could be a greater chance of tension loss as opposed to a constant pull machine (babolat or other electronic machine). The only ways to combat that are to have your tension clamps squeeky clean and tight and/or increase the tension slightly.

Hey Lefty, thanks for the info. on the knots. It helps to have a senior stringer available to clarify some questions. Yeah, I have an Alpha Revo 4000 tabletop spring tension crank stringer. It's not top O the line but gets the job done and I love being able to string my own frames whenever I want and make a little scratch on the side to support this sick racquetball habit of mine.
